Hugh McElhenny, The King

University of Washington running back and 1970 NFL Hall of Fame inductee Hugh McElhenny presided over the 1979 Seattle Seafair activities as “King Neptune Rex”. McElhenny ran the ball for the Huskies in the early ’50’s prior to being drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49er’s as the ninth overall pick where he was nicknamed “The King” for is dominating rushing style.

Outrigger Canoe Club Volleyball

An athletic Tom Selleck and the Outrigger Canoe Club Volleyball team visited Seattle to compete in the Men’s Club tournament at the Unviersity of Washington. Selleck, an advid volleyball player with close ties to the USA Men’s Volleyball program, brought volleyball to the set in several episodes of the 1980’s television show Magnum, PI.

Don James

Over his 18 year Washington Huskies career as head coach,  Don James finished with 17 winning seasons (5-6 in the second year). He took his Washington Husky teams to 14 bowl games, including six Rose Bowls with a 4-2 record in those games. He finished  153-57-2 overall, with an undefeated 12-0 season after a 34-14 victory over the Michigan Wolverines in the 1992 Rose Bowl.
